The Keyword Linking function will upload an dictionary XML file from the client's machine, parse it according to an XML schema that will be delivered by IPGRI, and import into the Wiki database.

The input in this scan is just the MediaWiki database corresponding to the MediaWiki installation on which the linking scan has been installed. The content does not contain any wiki syntax and there has been no post-install changes to the wiki other than loading it with content. The output is the content of the database with keywords 'Wiki linked' to their corresponding Wiki pages within the Wiki.

The keyword linking function does not require any special input in HTML forms, just to click the Start button. It requires that the content in the Wiki not contain any Wiki syntax and for the Wiki to not have gone through any configuration changes other than the initial transfer / import of content. Progress of the operation will be displayed as it proceeds. The precautions that should be taken before starting this operation are:

  • Backing up the database beforehand
  • Make the Wiki inaccessible to users (this should be simpler since the operation is most likely only used when setting up a Wiki for the first time)
  • Be careful to not interrupt the operation partway through
